You know what this place could use? A nightclub.

Don't get me wrong, I like Good Spirits a lot, but you can't exactly go there for dinner and dancing. The pizzeria seems like it has room for musicians, but pizza's not exactly ritzy. Sometimes you just want to go somewhere nice and hear a good band, you know? Putting a Tex Beneke record on just isn't the same.

It wouldn't even have to be dance music all the time, either. Just some piano music, like--oh, what's his name--Chopin plays would be nice. We probably don't have enough musicians here to make a full-sized band anyway.

I'm not asking for the Stork Club here--Lord knows I wouldn't get in if I was--but there oughta be something else to do here at night. For the most part, this place is great, but it's kind of a one-horse town when it comes to entertainment.

Yeah? [This is all coming together a hell of a lot more easily than she was expecting.] Well, I wouldn't want to take up all the space up there, but that'd be ideal. I mean, there's a real kitchen there, right?

Indeed there is~! I could move up some tables to the second floor, for those who'd like entertainment with their meals. [Sanji certainly likes this idea. Sounds classy]

Well--that sounds great to me. [If he's going to agree, no stops, she's not going to say no.] I'm not exactly your gal Friday for heavy lifting, but if you want some help getting things set up, I'd be happy to do my part.

No, that won't be necessary~! [He's got all the free labor he needs for this] I'll manage - though since this is your idea, you're welcome to stop by and take a look at how things are progressing.

[He doesn't want to overtake her project]

Oh, I'm sure you're plenty capable of fixing it all up. [The idea that it's "her" project is strange, but she might as well take responsibility for it, if that's how it's going to be.] I just don't want to stick you with all the work.

To be honest, I could use some extra work. [Harder to mope that way] Restaurant's closed for a few days as it is, so I don't mind.

Sounds like good timing to me. [And then something occurs to her.] It'll need some kind of name, too. I guess something Heaven-themed would probably fit, but I don't know what.

True enough... I'm afraid I'm a bit lacking here in creativity, Miss.

Maybe ask around for ideas?

Kay. Kay Eaton. [Not 'Miss.'] Pleasure to meet you.

[His response usually would be far, far more enthusiastic, but he just can't muster up that energy with everything's that's happened. He nods at her introduction with a grin, then says tentatively] There something you prefer being called?

You can call me Kay. [It's like pulling teeth to get anyone to do so, but she'll always give it another try.] Afraid I didn't catch your name.

It's Sanji, Kay-san.

Well, nice to meet you, Sanji.

...'Kay-san?' [She sounds confused, a bit curious, rather than annoyed.]

[Even so, the sudden attention to the honorific makes him reel back and laugh sheepishly. Sometimes he forgets he tacks it on]

My apologies~! It's like a term of respect for someone you don't know well. [Nevermind he happily bastardizes the rules to his liking]

Old habit, I'm afraid. If you prefer just Kay, say the word.

[It's not the dreaded "Miss Eaton" and she wants to steal the idea for stories, and so he may breathe easy.]

Whichever you prefer's fine with me. Seems pretty clever, putting that part after the name.

Where I come from, there's more than one. -chan, -kun, -san, -sama...

Yeah, I do. So what's the difference between all of them?

Depends on the message you wanna convey. Like -kun, for instance. Typically you see that used with men of close familiarity. -sama is like... [How to phrase this]

-Sama is one of the highest respects you can give a person. Sorta like equating them to a god. Or a goddess~! [Nodding] Every goddess deserves a -sama behind her name. [But he's getting derailed here, isn't he?]

-chan... Most commonly for ladies. You can see it as the equivalent of -kun. Not that it stops people from using it with men, but typically only kids do that. Or close friends. Or if you wanna piss someone off.

Huh. That's all really interesting--really interesting. [She's scribbling away in shorthand as he talks, already trying to decide how she'll use them in the future.] So where's it you're from originally?

A planet made almost entirely of water and shitty islands. [he draws out a map (http://www.unikon-island.de/pics/map.jpg) in a corner of the journal where she can see]

Save for a long strip of land that goes all the way to the ocean's bottom, and is too high for anyone to climb - the Red Line. That and the Grand Line - ocean current right here - divide the world into four seas: West Blue, East Blue, South Blue, and North Blue.

Huh. Looks like an interesting place. [A planet all of water would be interesting--might be some people spend all their lives in ships on it, never once set foot on land. There's the beginnings of a setting in this.]

So, if I was from your world, I'd call you... [She glances over her notes.] Sanji-san?

That's right.

Sanji-san. That's really a very clever system.

If you want to let me know when it looks like we could start planning an opening, I can see about lining up some music for it.

Aa. About that --

How exactly do you wanna work this, besides opening day? Will there be a sign-up sheet and the musicians offer up times they can play? [he folds his arms, thoughtful] Also, how often should this place be open? Everyday? Only weekends?

I guess it depends on how much interest we can drum up. We could start with Fridays and Saturdays and see if it takes off any. As far as musicians go...a few people've expressed interest already, and it sounds like there's more out there. I can see who's interested and what they can do, if you want to take care of fixing the space up.

[It occurs to her that they ought to have a timeline here, though. Kay works best under deadline.]

Whenabout do you think we could think about opening it up? I'm not exactly in the nightclub business by trade--I dunno how long this'll take.
